Infographics & Charities: A Modern Approach To Data Sharing

Via Amnesty International

Can data really be fun?  Lately we’ve seen an influx of “Infographics” popping up all over the internet, and we are loving the new visual spin on data.

Why are charities and non-profits turning to visually pleasing Infographics? In a recent Philanthropy.com article it was stated that metrics help donors “understand why they should contribute to one cause over another”. Yet, in order to overcome the reality that statistics aren’t necessarily engaging, organizations have turned to Infographics which appeal to “both the head and the heart.”

It is believed that a “well-designed” Infographic can result in multifaceted information being conveyed in an engaging manner, by reaching viewers on both an emotional and intellectual level.  A great example is the Infographic by USAID included in our gallery, which asks the question “Why Invest in Women?”. It is filled with statistics and facts which support the topic, and includes graphics which also tell a story.

The use of Infographics is becoming more widespread as is the appeal of using images and numbers to tell a story. In your experience have Infographics helped you better interpret the data?

Know of a great example? Please share the link – we’d love to to take a look!
