Top 5 Conscious Food Documentaries

I spend an untold amount of time at grocery stores picking up items and scanning the ingredient list. Initially it was a shocking experience, but over the years I have become accustomed to seeing the 1-4 inch long lists filled with many words I can’t pronounce. Nowadays I often don’t bother picking up suspect products.

Becoming aware of what foods I was purchasing and putting in my body is what introduced me to many concepts based around conscious living. My first glimpse into the world of industrial farming was a scene or two in the documentary Baraka, which was eye opening and terrifying.

Next I read “The 100-Mile Diet,” by Alisa Smith and J. B. MacKinnon. This motivated me me to sign up for a local Community Shared Agriculture program. When Food Inc. hit the scene it provided a detailed look into many aspects of modern day agribusiness, and truly changed my thoughts about meat.

We are extremely lucky to have so many resources available to help educate us so that we are able to  make conscious choices in life. One of my favourite resources, as someone who spends quite long periods of time with the written word, is documentaries. I am a documentary junkie, and I wanted to share with you my Top 5 Conscious Food docs.

1. Food Inc.

2. Our Daily Bread

3. The Future of Food

4. Food Matters

5. King Corn
