Introducing Wisdom Wednesdays ~ A Quote From Gandhi

(source)

Not long ago, I wrote about my love of quotes. I shared that they are a part of my regular soul ‘maintenance,’ and provide a quick boost of inspiration. Today I wanted to introduce a new regular feature on The Conscious Perspective, which focuses on the words I find inspiring – Wisdom Wednesdays.

Sometimes quotes do more than just inspire me. Sometimes they stay with me for longer than a fleeting moment, and dig a little deeper than I could have anticipated. These are the words I plan to share with you on Wednesdays. I am hoping to spread the Quote love as well, and am adding a Link Up option at the end if you would like to join in on your own blog and post an inspiring quote.

Today I am sharing the words of spiritual/political leader Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi. The quote above is incredibly powerful to me, as it says much about the discord we experience in our lives. Are we being authentic? Are our words in line with our actions? It is easy to say one thing, and do another when faced with everyday obstacles.

If you’re finding yourself unhappy in your life, question where your thoughts, words and actions are not lining up. It will likely reveal the area where change must be initiated, or at the very least, provide you with insight into why you feel the disharmony. A good place to start.

    Thought-provoking quotation!

I’m really nervous about disagreeing with Gandhi (!), but here goes: I can think, speak and act consistently, and truly, and still have what I’ve done be unpopular with people I love, and be, at that moment, very sad and unhappy. I would rewrite the quotation to be a definition of integrity, not happiness.

Carolyn – thanks for the comment, I love to hear your take on it. I’m torn. I see what you’re saying and I can appreciate why you are looking at it from this angle.

I think this brings up a good point, that regardless of the situation (or quote in this case), we all see things from unique perspectives – and I love to hear them!

The way I interpret happiness in this quote is actually what I would consider bliss. Joy regardless of external factors. I see it that if someone is being truly authentic down to the core, sadness wouldn’t even be an accessible emotion. This is my perspective anyway ;)
